The Reaper Hierarchy
A canonical breakdown of the cosmic order governing life, death, and enforcement.
The Artist
The Creator—architect of all existence and originator of the first reapers—to preserve balance between life and death. In 1982, the Artist forged the Cosmic Reaper, appointing them as right hand and steward over the reaper order.
Cosmic Reaper
- Created by the Artist in 1982; serves as the Artist’s right hand.
- Creator of all Shadow Reapers and steward empowered to create all future reapers.
- Respected by every reaper—older and younger—due to the mantle handed down by the Artist.
- Intervenes only for cosmic-level threats that endanger creation itself.
Grim Reapers
- The oldest of all reapers—ancient, neutral, and incorruptible.
- Guide souls to judgment in the afterlife; they neither punish nor redeem.
- Represent inevitability and balance; they acknowledge the Cosmic Reaper as superior in the modern order.
Reapers of Light
- Escort the purest souls directly to heaven.
- Appear exclusively as women—embodying compassion, serenity, and reassurance.
- Often mistaken for angels; the gentlest face of the reaper order.
Reapers of the Damned
- Hunters tasked with removing beings who do not belong in the living realm (e.g., vampires, werewolves, demons, abominations).
- Ruthless and relentless; a deterrent to those who defy the natural order.
- Manifest judgment through force.
Shadow Reapers
- The youngest class, created directly by the Cosmic Reaper.
- Serve as muscle, enforcers, and contingency backup when any reaper is attacked or obstructed.
- Feared and respected—the “dark cavalry” that rides when lines are crossed.
- More emotive and unpredictable than older orders; their youth makes them volatile.
- Tadaa’s origin: a Shadow Reaper who refuses his role—an act of direct defiance.
